Framework

BET is a training provider for the electrical contracting industry. We manage apprenticeships for a wide range of electrical contractors and provide on site assessment and “off the job” training at our own purpose built centre or at a local college on a block release or day release basis.

Once BET has received your application form and pre-interview questionnaire, providing you are successful at this stage, we will arrange an initial assessment consisting of a key skills diagnostic. You will also need to present a colour vision certificate (certain levels of colour blindness may render you ineligible for the electrical industry). If you are successful at this stage you will be invited to attend an interview with a member of our tutor team.

Once you have satisfied the BET requirements, you will need to find employment with a BET client company. BET can assist you in doing this, however you need to be pro-active in securing a job, as you must have employed status prior to commencing your apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements
Due to the nature of the Advanced Apprenticeship programme we offer, candidates should ideally hold GCSE grades A*-C (or equivalent) in Maths, English, and Science. Other grades will be assessed on merit, subject to passing the Initial Assessment.

Progression

BET has a recruitment policy which, if you are selected, will lead to enrolment on our advanced apprenticeship training programme.

The advanced apprenticeship lasts for four years (although previous experience and qualifications may reduce this). Training will be provided to enable completion of the NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Installation. Training will also include the City & Guilds 2357 Electrotechnical and the Key Skills in Application of Number, Communication and Information and Communication Technology, and, finally the industry’s own practical performance assessment, the AM2 test, which is normally taken towards the end of the fourth year. An example of the timescale for delivery of training is shown below.

Year 1
Complete stage one NVQ Logbook (evidence derived from work activities and on site assessment, recorded in NVQ logbook), complete City & Guilds 2357 knowledge units, completion of Key Skills portfolio and external tests.

Year 2
Complete stage 2 NVQ Logbook (evidence derived from work activities and on site assessment, recorded in NVQ logbook), complete second year City & Guilds 2357 knowledge units leading to full Level Three Technical Certificate qualification.

Year 3
Complete stage 3 NVQ logbook (evidence derived from work activities and on site assessment, recorded in NVQ logbook).

Year 4
On site work experience with employer, undertake Practical Performance Assessment (AM2), NVQ level 3 certificate gained.

On completion of the apprenticeship an application to the Joint Industry Board (JIB) for grading as an electrician can be applied for.
