Electrical Awareness

The safe control of electricity is a fundamental requirement for anyone who is involved in working with electricity, in any capacity.

Course Content

This course is suitable for anyone whose work requires a basic understanding of the safe use of electricity (i.e. plant operatives, maintenance engineers, caretakers). Although not expected to carry out electrical duties, an understaning of how to work safely with electrical equipment is required.

The course gives an overview of the legislative requirements and non-statutory regulations that must be complied with, combined with basic safety and isolation procedures.

  • Introduction and overview
  • Employer/employee responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act
  • An overview of the Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Introduction to BS 7671 and its relationship to statutory legislation
  • Understanding of electric shock and its effects on the body
  • Safe isolation procedure/ theory
  • Protective devices
  • RCD’s and RCBO’s
  • Identifying unsafe electrical situations
  • Safe isolation procedure/practical assessment
