Course Overview

Due to the rapid uptake in Electric Vehicles over the past 3 years, more consumers are charging their vehicles at home, work, and public charging stations around the UK. This has led to a high demand for competent installers. The New 2921-31 course replaces the current City & Guilds 2919-01 Qualification. This new qualification has been significantly revised to better reflect the requirements, updates and reduce the use of unqualified and unsafe practices in the installation of EV Charging Points. 

Course Content

The 2921-31 qualification is designed for qualified competent electricians who wish to update their current skills to install and maintain EV charging units in domestic or small commercial premises. The 2921-31 qualification is a suitable qualification for candidates looking to become an approved EV Charging Point Installer. 

Topics Covered 

• Understanding the requirements relating to EV Charging Equipment 

• Understanding different types and features of EV Charging Equipment 

• Designing an installation for EV Charging Equipment 

• Understanding requirements for inspection, testing, commissioning and handover of EV charging equipment and circuits 

• Understanding the use of vehicles as Electrical Energy Storage systems as part of prosumers installations 

Day 1: Classroom Based – teaching around Code of Practice 

Day 2: Online & Written Assessments

Candidate Requirements

This course is intended for practicing electricians, that are a minimum of 18 years old and must hold one of the following: 

2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures, and the Environment) 

2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance) 

5357 Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification 

2356 Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker 

2346 Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification 

Other Awarding Organisations equivalences will also be acceptable 

Equivalent historical qualifications (see EAS Table 4B/4C) EAS Qualifications guide December 2020 (theiet.org) 

or 

ECS Gold Card, JIB Electrician or Approved Electrician Card 

The qualifications above must have been achieved no more than 5 years prior to starting this qualification or there must be evidence the candidate has remained current by completing relevant CPD such as a City and Guilds 2382 or equivalent. 

Assessment

• 45 Min – 28 Question Multiple Choice Online Exam (Instant Result) 

• 90 Min – 20 Question Written Short Answer & Scenario Based Assessment

• IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation, 4TH Edition
